about
‘inertia’ is about being scared of change. after a tumultuous few years, global & personal crises, violet oscillation find themselves longing for comfort & stability. ‘inertia’ was written & recorded as a way of creating hope. luca, the creative catalyst for much of the band’s music, describes how “music has always been a cathartic process for me. these songs have always acted as a sort of therapy for myself. nothing in the world gives me as much joy as playing these songs & i hope our listeners can process this music in much the same way, healing & positivity for all.”
still separated from his bandmates due to external factors, this composition by luca is as introspective as songs come. modulated swirling shoegaze guitars take the foreground, with the signature layered violet oscillation vocal approach acting as a further textural component to take you somewhere else but here. the song finishes with a drone segment, before the storm hits, bass guitar & effects enveloping the listener. “here’s to more beauty & less turbulence for all of us,” luca says.
as introspective as inertia is, violet oscillation are always looking at the bigger picture. “i’ve recently been delving more and more into my ukrainian heritage. recent world events really spurred me onto understand where it is i truly come from and a lot of epiphanies have been happening. i really feel shoegaze music & visuals are the best way i can express these almost insurmountable topics, it’s a place where i can express what can’t be said with words - through noise,” luca explains.
violet oscillation will be returning later this year and into 2024 with new music and shows. of their plans luca says “we’ve been sitting on hours worth of music since 2019, with external factors mostly out of our control separating us. as much as i miss the lads, these four years have given me even more time to write new music and we should be sorted for at least a few albums now” - it’s not all doom and gloom, silver linings and all.
violet oscillation produce all their art independently. they will be releasing a self-made music video for inertia utilising the signature visual style they have been come to known for with pedal partners.
